Frequently Asked Questions
What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a dream-like state of deep relaxation. It has been practised in various forms for thousands of years by many cultures. Today, hypnosis is recognised by the scientific community as an effective healing tool, used by doctors and psychotherapists as part of their treatment process.
Will hypnotherapy work for me?
Hypnotherapy has the capacity to work for anyone, but some are more hypnotisable than others. The most important thing to remember is that you must keep an open mind, be fully committed to the process, and feel that you can fully trust me as your hypnotherapist.
Is hypnotherapy safe?
I am a fully qualified and experienced hypnotherapist. Hypnotherapy is completely safe. You cannot be hypnotised into doing things against your will, and you cannot be forced into a hypnotic state. Instead, you allow yourself to be hypnotised. You are always in control.
Is hypnotherapy safe for children?
Hypnotherapy for children and young people is considered highly effective and is completely safe. Children tend to respond very well to hypnosis as they are naturally quite imaginative and use their subconscious minds a great deal.
Will I lose control of my body?
No, you will have full control of your body and thoughts. You cannot be made to do or say things you don't want to.
How long does a session last?
Session times can vary depending on the type of therapy you choose. As a rough guide, allow up to an hour and a half for form filling and therapy time.
How many sessions will I need?
Most people require at least three sessions to receive the full benefits of hypnotherapy. However, even one session can invoke powerful changes in your life.
Will I remember what happened during the session?
You will remember everything you need to remember. Any portions not remembered will be where your mind has drifted off to some distant thought or memory.
What does hypnosis feel like?
Everyone has experienced hypnosis before. Examples of common hypnotic experiences include: daydreaming, being focused on a pleasant task and losing track of time, and being engrossed in your favourite television show.
Will I fall asleep?
Hypnosis is very relaxing but differs from sleep in that you never lose awareness during hypnosis. When you are hypnotised, you continue to be aware of your surroundings. In fact, your senses can actually become heightened and more acute than normal.
How will I feel once the session is over?
You will be alert and fully able to continue with your day, and your subconscious mind will already be starting to make the changes that we worked on in your therapy.
What will happen if I cancel an appointment?
Please give at least 24 hours notice if you are unable to attend your appointment. Cancellations made after this time will be subject to full payment of the session price.
